As of this evening, here are pictures of our victory garden .. I have lost the pumpkin, cilantro, and the stevia but I have added cucumber, eggplant, and cinnamon basil. We have had some set backs but I am figuring out how to take care of them as we go. First we had the raccoons and the possums eating the plants, so I installed a deer fence. This was an inexpensive choice because I couldn’t decided what kind of fence to put up. Anyway, this stopped them but it didn’t stop the the squirrels, who ate my cilantro plants. I replanted some cilantro in a different location, now we will just have to wait and see. Another thing that happened was that we had a heatwave. A whole week of temps in the triple digits, one day we reached 113 which is way over the normal for June here in LA. So knowing that it was about to happen, I doubled the watering schedule but our plants still got burned and hurt pretty badly. Lesson learned when you don’t have some shade, go out and buy it. I bought umbrellas and I now put them up for hottest points of the day to give the plants a break. I have also recently added some plants to my garden (on the driveway) that are not for food but I just loved when I saw them. A neighborhood nursery was going out of business so I went and bought the 5 plants dirt cheap. They looked better when I first bought them two days before the heatwave so they had to combat the shock of their new pots and the heat. They are coming around thanks to coffee groups, plant food and water. So that’s it.. until another post.. ttyl TBM
